Please note that this information comes from dated NPS publications and general observations by members of the Chattanooga Civil War Round Table and DOES NOT necessarily represent the official or latest announcements from the National Park Service. The Department of the Interior owns and governs specific lands in and around the Chattanooga area that have been preserved from commercial and residential development. The National Park Service administers and manages these lands, specifically in our area, as The Chickamauga-Chattanooga National Military Park. These lands are located in both Tennessee and Georgia and they commemorate the actions and battles of two great American Civil War military campaigns.

CHICKAMAUGA (GEORGIA)

The Chickamauga Campaign (June 26, 1863 - September 21, 1863) culminated in the Battle of Chickamauga (September 18 - 20, 1863). Chickamauga Battlefield is preserved in one location, on a 5,283-acre tract just south of Ft. Oglethorpe, Georgia. The NPS has established a visitor center at the north end of the battlefield that offers several Civil War related activities and programs:

CHATTANOOGA (TENNESSEE)

The Chattanooga Campaign (September 22, 1863 - November 27, 1863) ended after several battles for Chattanooga. "Reservations" have been established in and around Chattanooga to preserve 3,000+ acres of land from further development; however, some properties are still privately owned. The NPS has a visitor center atop Lookout Mountain across the street from Point Park:
