Pellissippi State Technical Community College (PSTCC) made the following announcement about Civil War events at PSTCC that are open to the public.

Pellissippi State's Common Academic Experience will end with a bang as organizers close out a year of events and activities based on the novel Sharpshooter, written by Knoxville native David Madden. A book fair and a roundtable discussion by Civil War experts are planned for April 9. Then on April 11-12, reenactors will "invade" the Pellissippi campus on Hardin Valley Road, taking visitors back in time to the spring of 1863.

The following events will take place on Wednesday, April 9, in Goins Auditorium:

9:40 Earl Hess, associate professor and director of the history program at Lincoln Memorial University and author of 10 books about the Civil War, will discuss a new book about the Knoxville campaign.

11:50 Steve Dean, producer of a new film, Its Memory Alone Remains: The Battle of Fort Sanders, November 29, 1863, will discuss his full-scale reconstruction of the Fort Sanders earthworks, located in East Knox County.

2:00 David Madden, Earl Hess, Steve Dean, and Joan Markel will participate in a roundtable discussion moderated by Edward Francisco, Pellissippi State's Writer in Residence.

On April 11 and 12, Civil War reenactors from the 63rd Tennessee Volunteer Infantry Regiment (Confederate) and the 8th Tennessee Volunteer Infantry Regiment (Federal) will portray the American Civil War era as part of a Living History observation. Authentically uniformed and equipped soldiers will set up camp, perform drill exercises, and conduct firing demonstrations. Infantry drills are scheduled for 10 a.m., 11 a.m., and 3 p.m. on Saturday. The men will interact with visitors but will be totally in character: they will not talk about anything that happened after April 1863.

All events are free and open to the public. Books and DVDs will be available for sale and signing during Wednesday's events.

Please join us for this culmination of Pellissippi State's Common Academic Experience and Living History Observation.
