The following email was forwarded to the Round Table by member Dr. Michael Brown on August 31, 2006. He writes: "I rec'd. the following a few days ago. I am unsure about its accuracy, but wanted to pass it on to some of you to see if anyone else was aware of the Museum of the Confederacy in Richmond having any financial or other problems." Michael
WEBMASTER'S NOTE: The text of Museum Executive Director S. Waite Rawls, III's August 15, 2006 announcement can be found at: Museum of the Confederacy Announcement. |
To All Civil War Round Table Members and Lovers of History, No doubt you have heard how deeply in trouble the Museum of the Confederacy is. Simply, the Museum is perilously close to extinction because of a near 75% drop in visitor attendance due primarily to the chaotic construction activities of the University of Virginia Medical Center around the Museum's grounds and compounded by a most recent denial of crucial funding by the Virginia State Legislature. The bottom line, to survive the Museum needs money immediately, and lots of it. Museum Executive Director S. Waite Rawls has sent out a "call to arms" to rally support for the Museum as the gravity of their situation is most dire.
My name is Dean Marshall and I urge all members to do all that they can as the Museum of the Confederacy is home to the world's premier collection of artifacts and archives pertaining to the history of the Confederacy. Don't allow this treasured institution to fall victim to indifference and political correctness. Contact them at moc.org or 804.649.1861 to donate and get the facts. Please confirm receipt of this email and then pass it on to a friend.
Sincerely, |
