Forrest's Boyhood Home
[From: http://www.marshallcountytn.com/Municipalities.htmv ]
The Town of Chapel Hill, Tennessee has several attractions of which include the Annual Tractor
Pull of the South, the boyhood home of General Nathan Bedford Forrest and Henry Horton State
Park. The Tractor Pull of the South is sponsored by Chapel Hill's Lions Club. The tractor
pull occurs one weekend in July, attracting record breaking spectators from all over the
United States. The boyhood home of Nathan Bedford Forrest, a Civil War General who with no
military training became one of the leading Calvary figures, was acquired by the Sons of
the Confederate Veterans (SCV) in 1997. The SVC has restored this home to its original state.
Chapel Hill is also the home of Henry Horton State Park, which is located on the former
estate of Henry Horton, 36th governor of Tennessee. The park includes Horton Inn (72 rooms),
campground, cabins, outdoor swimming pool, a championship 18-hole golf course and skeet and
trap range. The Duck River also runs to the north of the park which is popular for water
attractions such as canoeing.
Presently Chapel Hill is growing both residentially and commercially. This may be attributed
to friendly people, quality schools and a pleasant atmosphere.
