From: seaofgray@bellsouth.net Subject: SEA OF GRAY: The Around-the-World Odyssey of the Confederate Raider CSS Shenandoah by Tom Chaffin 432 Pgs, Illustrated, 5.25-in x 8.5-in, Hardback. ISBN:0-8090-9511-4-$25.00. Hill & Wang New York, NY; 212-741-6900 Date: June 5, 2006 Dear Friends, Father’s Day—Sunday June 18— is fast approaching. And I’d like to note that many bookstores around the country are offering “Sea of Gray” on their Father’s Day tables. I also wanted to let you know that, during the run-up to Father’s Day, I’ll be signing books at several metro Atlanta bookstores: Saturday, June 10, 2 PM, Kennesaw’s Borders Bookstore, 605 Barrett Parkway, phone 678-581-1243; Sunday, June 11, 2 PM, Acappella Bookstore, Sunday, 484 Moreland Ave. (Little Five Points), 404 681-5128; and Sunday, June 17, 2 PM Buckhead’s Barnes and Noble, 2900 Peachtree Rd., 404 261-7747. I’ll soon be alerting you to future events in Tennessee, South Carolina, Illinois, Wisconsin, Massachusetts and other states. As “Sea of Gray” continues to win new readers, I’m especially grateful for the reception accorded the book by active-duty and retired military personnel—and am particularly touched that among those readers are personnel now serving in Iraq. “Sea of Gray” continues to garner enthusiastic reviews in a wide range of publications—from the “Times [of London] Literary Supplement” to the “Cape Cod Times.” I’m including two recent reviews of which I’m particularly proud—(a link) to one from the current “Sea Classics” magazine; and a pdf of a lead rave review in the current “Naval History” magazine, a bible for scholars and fans of maritime stories.
From Sea Classics magazine: From the U. S. Naval Institute magazine: [This review is recommended for viewing. Webmaster, Chattanooga CWRT] SeaOfGrayNHreview[2].pdf I also want to direct your attention to an article I’ve written which appears in the current issue of “North and South” magazine (vol 9, no. 3). Adapted from “Sea of Gray,” it details a plot-revealed now for the first time-to sabotage the CSS Shenandoah while she was in Melbourne, Australia. Again, I deeply appreciate your support of “Sea of Gray.”
