SEPTEMBER MEETING

Our third Tuesday of the month meeting night this month is, as I’ve noted before and you all probably recognize, one of the anniversary dates for the Battle of Chickamauga, September 19. As with last year when the third Tuesday was the 20th, I just can’t pass up the opportunity of being on the field, on the scene of the action, that evening as opposed to being in a meeting hall. Hence, and based on how well received the exercise was last year and some other years in the past, this month’s meeting of the Chattanooga Civil War Round Table will be at the Chickamauga Battlefield on Tuesday, September 19, 2006 as usual, but at a different place. We will meet at 7 PM as usual and will initially gather in the parking lot of the Chickamauga Battlefield Visitor Center on the historic LaFayette Road in Fort Oglethorpe. We’ll then go out on the field and look at some of the ground of Cleburne’s twilight attack in the area of Winfrey Field. We’ll do some walking and it will get dark but I’ll try to get all of our trail or off road walking done before total darkness. But, we will be talking about a “night attack” so come dressed in comfortable supportive outdoor footwear and bring a flashlight. I’ll go rain or shine so unless there’s a really bad storm just at that time, come on.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

IN THE FIELD
As noted above and below, our September meeting is not at McCallie as usual but instead is at the Chickamauga Battlefield.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

SPEAKER'S FUND SUPPORT OF THE MONTH

Because we will be in the field this month at the Chickamauga Battlefield, we’ll not do the Speaker’s Fund. It will return to its normal place with the October meeting.

CHEROKEE REMOVAL PROGRAM
Since Winfield Scott, Braxton Bragg, Jubal Early and other later Civil War generals participated, I’ll bring to your attention the fact that the Friends of Moccasin Bend National Park will be having Cherokee Removal expert Dr. Duane H. King, Director of the Southwest Museum of American Indian in Los Angeles, speak on Monday, September 18 at 7 PM at the Tennessee Aquarium auditorium.

CANISTER IN ELECTRONS
Last month was the third month in the experiment of distributing the Canister by email. As far as I can tell, all of the now more than twenty folks who have signed up for the “E-Canister” got the August issue both electronically and in paper through the mail. There are still some things to work out, but we’ll probably be able to do it.
