6:30 p.m. – Brigadier General Nathan Bedford Forrest
Join a Park Ranger for a 90-minute, 1 mile walking tour - Brigadier General Nathan Bedford Forrest, a renowned Confederate cavalry commander, was recognized for his talents as a strategist, tactician, and personal leader in combat. Learn about Forrest's involvement during the Battle of Chickamauga. Please wear sturdy shoes, bring a bottle of water and a flashlight.

TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 16, 2008 - Visitor Center extended hours: 8:30 AM to 6:00 PM ET

10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. - Car Caravan Tour of Chickamauga Battlefield
Join a Park Ranger for a 90-minute car caravan tour covering the highlights of the Battle of Chickamauga.

6:30 p.m. Artillery and the Mounted Service
Join historian Richard Manion on a 2-hour walking and driving tour that will tell the stories of Artillery and the Mounted Service during the Battle of Chickamaga. This tour will visit numerous field artillery sites, and focus on the traditions and practices of artillery horses and how they served a battery. Moderate walking distances will be covered. Please wear sturdy shoes, bring a bottle of water and a flashlight.

WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 17, 2008 - Visitor Center extended hours: 8:30 AM to 6:00 PM ET

Join a Park Ranger for a 90-minute car caravan tour covering the highlights of the Battle of Chickamauga.

6:30 p.m. – Johnson's Division Advances
Join a Park Ranger for a 90-minute walking and driving tour covering battle action that unfolded during the afternoon of September 18, 1863 along Reeds Bridge Road and near Jay's Mill. On September 18th, Brigadier General Bushrod Johnson's Division advanced across Peavine Ridge on the Reeds Bridge Road. His objective, cross the Chickamauga Creek and strike the Federal Army's left at Lee and Gordon's Mill. Total walking distance is less than 1 mile. Please wear sturdy shoes, bring a bottle of water and a flashlight.

Join a Park Ranger for a 90-minute car caravan tour covering the highlights of the Battle of Chickamauga.

6:30 p.m. – Kate Cumming, "A Confederate Nurse”
Join a Park Ranger for a three-mile, 90-minute walk where 145 years ago Kate Cumming observed the horrors of battle casualties. In the fall of 1862, Kate Cumming volunteered to work at Newsome Hospital in Chattanooga, Tennessee. She would remain there for a year, until the summer of 1863, when the city was evacuated. Two weeks after the Battle of Chickamauga, in early October 1863, Kate Cumming visited the field hospitals near Chickamauga Creek on the field where the great battle had been fought. Please wear sturdy shoes, bring a bottle of water and a flashlight.

6:30 p.m. – Jay's Mill to the Brotherton Farm
Join a Park Ranger on a 90-minute driving and walking tour that will follow the order of battle as it occurred on September 19, 1863 as Confederate and Federal soldiers waged a desperate fight in the fields and woods from Jay's Mill to the Brotherton Farm. Please wear sturdy shoes, bring a bottle of water and a flashlight. Total walking distance is approximately 1 mile.

Join historians Patrick Booth and Dennis Headlee in the Chickamauga Battlefield Visitor Center where they will have on display a collection of artifacts used during the Civil War, Western Theatre of Military Operations.

Author: Rick Baumgartner, award winning Civil War author, will be signing his books from 10:00 AM until 6:00 PM in the Visitor Center Bookstore.

Join a Park Ranger for a 90-minute bus tour covering the highlights of the Battle of Chickamauga.

9:00 a.m. - Breckinridge Assaults the Union Left
Join a Park Ranger for a 90-minute, 2-mile walking tour covering the ground where the initial assault by Confederate soldiers was led by Major General John C. Breckinridge's Division on September 20, 1863. Please wear sturdy shoes and bring a bottle of water.

9:30 a.m. - Battlefield Bicycle Tour
Join a Park Ranger on a 7 to 10 mile, 2 to 3 hour bicycle tour of Chickamauga Battlefield. Participants are encouraged to bring their own bicyble. All participants are required to wear a helmet. Outdoor Chattanooga, a division of the City of Chattanooga Park's and Recreation Department, will provide 10 Bianchi Milano Cruiser Bicycles and helmets for visitors without bicycles. Outdoor Chattanooga's bicycles will be available for adults and children under their supervision. Riders must be at least 5 feet tall to use bicycles provided by Outdoor Chattanooga. Reservations are required if you intend to use one of Outdoor Chattanooga bicycles, and can be made by calling Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Park at (706) 866-9241.

11:00 a.m. - Longstreet's Breach of the Federal Line
Join a Park Ranger for a 90-minute, 2 mile walking tour near the Brotherton Farm. Here, on the late morning of September 20, 1863, the Confederate Army would deal a devastating blow to the Union Army. Lt. General James Longstreet's assault at the Brotherton Farm would send one-third of the Union Army in flight from the battlefield. Please wear sturdy shoes and bring a bottle of water.

2:00 p.m. - "W. C. Oates on Lytle Hill"
Join a Park Ranger for a 90-minute, 1 mile walking tour. This program will tell the story of Colonel W. C. Oates and his 15th Alabama Regiment. On September 20, 1863, Oates and his regiment assisted in the attack on the Union brigade of General W. H. Lytle. Please wear sturdy shoes and bring a bottle of water.

4:00 p.m. - Artillery and the Mounted Service
Join historian Richard Manion on a 2-hour walking and driving tour that will tell the stories of Artillery and the Mounted Service during the Battle of Chickamaga. 6:30 p.m. - Snodgrass Hill - "The Final Hours"
Join a Park Ranger for a 90-minute, two-mile walking tour across the slopes of Snodgrass Hill. Here on the afternoon and evening hours of September 20, 1863, the final battle actions would seal an army's fate. Explore the consequences of battle decisions and what the Confederate and Union Armies both won and lost. Please wear sturdy shoes, bring a bottle of water and a flashlight.

Living History Programs:
Schedules will be posted at the Chickamauga Battlefield Visitor Center. Follow the special program signs to the demonstration area.

Artillery Demonstrations:
Living Historians portraying Union Artillermen will demonstrate firing light field artillery cannon. Demonstrations will be conducted near the Florida Monument on LaFayette Road. Parking will be available. Artillery programs will be at 10:00 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1:00 p.m., 2:30 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.

Infantry Demonstrations:
Living Historians portraying Union soldiers from the 21st Ohio Volunteer Infantry Regiment, Confederate soldiers from the 37th Tennessee Infantry Regiment and the 1st Tennessee Infantry Regiment, Company H, will be conducting demonstrations on tactics used by infantry troops during the Battle of Chickamauga. These groups will be at various locations around the battlefield.

Cavalry Demonstrations:
Join a group of Confederate Cavalrymen as they discuss the role and tactics used by cavalry during the Battle of Chickamauga. Demonstrations will be held in the McDonald Field near the Visitor Center. Programs will be held throughout the day.

Medical Programs:
Living Historians portraying the 17th Ohio Regimental Hospital will be encamped at the Snodgrass Cabin. Throughout the day, they wll provide programs interpreting the role of a regimental field hospital. Medical equipment used in a Field Hospital will be on display.

Join a Park Ranger for "Politics and War," a program that will discuss the political histories of Chickamauga Battle veterans John C. Breckinridge, Benjamin Helm, James A. Garfield and John Wilder. This talk will take place in the Chickamauga Battlefield Visitor Center and will last approximately 1 hour.

1:00 p.m. - Braxton Bragg
Join a Park Ranger for a 90-minute, walking and driving tour on "Braxton Bragg." This program will tell the story of one of the Civil War's most controversial personalities. General Bragg commanded the Confederate Army of Tennessee during the Battle of Chickamauga. This tour involves less than 1 mile of walking. Please wear sturdy shoes and bring a bottle of water.

3:30 p.m. - Fallen Leaders at Chickamauga
Join a Park Ranger for a 90-minute, 1-mile walking tour visiting the sites where Brigade commanders fell in battle. Over the course of two days, September 19 and 20, 1863, eight brigade commanders (Heg, Baldwin, Smith, Helm, Colquit, King, Deschler and Lytle) sustained mortal wounds during the Battle of Chickamauga. Learn more about these brave leaders during this tour. Please wear sturdy shoes and bring a bottle of water.

Living History Programs:
